The company just confirmed that it’s rolling out Google Home’s calling feature in the US and Canada beginning today. Users can dial anyone in their contacts and local businesses for free — so long as the call recipient is in one of those two countries. To get it set up, you first need to set up the Google Assistant with your Duo account. Since the launch of the Nest Hub , it’s been possible to Duo call your smart display from a phone or call your loved ones from your Nest Hub. Meanwhile, the classic Google Home speakers were left without this handy feature, but not for long.
To end a call, either say "Ok Google, end call" or "Hang up". You can also tap the top of your Google Home or Home Max, or the centre of your Nest Audio, Nest Mini or Nest Wifi point. For those with a Google Home Mini, tap the side to hang up, while those with a Nest Hub or Nest Hub Max can tap "End call" on the display.

One that I make use of a few times a week is the ability to make calls. Once you have it set up this is dead simple, so here’s how to get started making calls with Google Home and Google Nest Hub. With Duo calls, your device will call the number with a valid Duo account. When you’re on a call, you can use voice commands related to your call. As of now, you can finally place audio calls to your Google Home smart speakers via Google Duo. But who wants to figure out the ins and outs of making and receiving calls on a new device? With Duo calling, Nest speakers and displays can make and receive video or voice calls to anyone who has a Duo account.
There is no special setup for hands-free calling with Google Home. It simply uses your phone contacts or nearby businesses based on your location to place calls. With Google-supported calling and carrier calling, the Google Assistant will ask you which number you'd like to call. Voice recognition software allows smart speakers to tailor their replies to the individual who is using the device. Check the functionality of any devices used to make or receive phone calls.
Tips for better voice calls and video calls
That’s both good and bad at the moment, which I’ll get into next. For most users, their Google Home will be ready to make phone calls without any extra setup. We’re also not sure if there’s a way to know who’s calling or to even reject the call, for that matter.

To get started, you can create groups in theDuo mobile app, and from there just ask your Hub Max, “Hey Google, make a group call,” and tap on the Duo group you want to connect with. And withauto-framing, you can freely move around your kitchen or living room during your Duo video call, while staying in view.
You may also inquire about a local business and just say, “Call them,” if you like. You may skip this step if you performed it during the initial setup of your Google Home or Google Home Mini; otherwise, continue reading. Hands-free Calling for Google Home and Nest speakers is available in the US and Canada only. You can’t call one Google Home device from another, nor can you call emergency numbers. The United States of America and Canada have access to this feature . Your region may have access to a variety of other calling options. A Nest Aware user in the United States can use Google Home to instantly contact a nearby emergency call center, even if they are out of the country, such as while on vacation. The emergency calling function of your Nest Aware membership may not operate if the speakers and displays supported by your membership are not located at your living area physical address. It's also very easy to set up these contacts using verbal commands. To set up using the display, say "Hey Google, set up household contacts." On the display, you can then select the people to add as household contacts or select "Can's find someone?" to add them.
